The confession Oprah wouldn't show

Lance Armstrong's reputation my be lower that a punctured sew up, but what about Pee Oui's?  Maybe you'll call him naive, stupid, gullible or just plain Pee Oui, but he swallowed the Lance denials hook, line and lager.  And why?  Read on.

Oprah:  Pee Oui, did you ever see Lance Armstrong use drugs?

Pee Oui:  No, not never, not ever.

Oprah:  Did you ever see him drink beer?

Pee Oui:  Yes, many times when he was shilling for that Missouri swill Michelob Light.

How to Rage like Santa

You know you can rely on me for real practical advise on cycling questions.  Many people are aware that Santa, saint though he may be, is also human and vulnerable to the mental stress brought on by the holidays.  In recent years he's had a relief valve as his character becomes morphed into hundreds of Santoids who vent his pent up rage by pedaling bar to bar in Milwaukee on the annual Santa Cycle Rampage.

Has your tire pressure ever done you wrong

Has your tire pressure ever done you wrong

A lot of people just put some air in every week or so and don't even think about it.  I'm more fanatical.  I run different pressures at different times.  I puzzle over ten pounds pressure like someone standing in front of a microwave trying to decide if they should punch a minute 28 seconds or a minute 36.  Sometimes over thinking has gotten me in trouble.  At least over thinking that led to a dumb ass decision.

Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee & Steel Is Real Date Corrections

The great thing about getting old is you blame FUs on just that and everyone says, "Ya, well duh."  Well Pee Oui with his clipboard of calendar month print outs and his #2 pencil wrote the 2013 dates in the wrong months.  Fortunately, alert readers rushing to iCal sent WTF messages saying, "P Oui you got some 'splaining to do."  So, the real, cross my heart, dates are:

Action Camera Review

Contour, GoPro, and Sony helmet cams mounted side-by-side

It is no secret that action cameras are a big part of what we do here at Trail Genius.  Without them, there would be no genius.  We are in a constant search for the next best thing.  That next best thing could be the new to the market Sony HDR-AS15. We decided to test this side-by-side against our other cameras: the Contour+ and the GoPro Hero2.

Which is the best?  The short answer is, it comes down to usage.  I know, I know, it sounds like a cop out, but it's true.  Each camera has something the others don't which makes them better in certain applications.  At the end of the day, no camera is hands-down the best.  In the end our goal is to review these cameras based on how we use them, and provide you with side-by-side video comparisons so you can judge for yourself.

If usage is the biggest factor, let's talk about how we use the cameras here at Trail Genius?  Our primary focus is to film trails and events and sync that video with GPS data to create online interactive maps.  We started out creating mountain bike maps.   They still are the main focus, but we have branched out to road biking, running, swimming, and skiing.  The end use of our video is the internet, streamed via YouTube at 360p by default, with the option to play at up to 1080p.  We are not creating production videos that are meant for HDTVs.  The biggest factors when Trail Genius chooses a camera are mounts, battery life, reliability and how easy it is to turn on.  GPS capability is an added bonus because it can simplify our process (more on that in a bit).  We want to easily know: Is it on? Is it filming? How much battery memory is left?

MTB Radio Interview

This is a milestone moment at Trail Genius, our first radio interview.  Ben Welnak of MTB Radio interviewed Jason on Wed, October 17, 2012 at 08:30PM.

MTB Radio is, in their own words: "The voice of mountain biking. From the average joe to the top pro and from short track racing to multi-day adventures and everything in between, we bring the world of mountain bikes to you."

Check out the embedded radio player below for the interview.  First radio, then TV, then movies, then the world!

Chequamegon 2012

It was a big year at Chequamegon, Trail Genius had a lot going on, starting out with the expo on Friday.  This was the second year we have had a booth at the expo, and we found time to make some upgrades to our display.  Last year we have one LCD, this year we had three LCDs, and two iPads.  Plenty of screen space to show off Trail Genius maps.  The expo was super successful with TG making all kinds of new contacts.  Because we were in charge of mapping for the event, we got VIP passes, which meant free meals all weekend, starting with the spaghetti dinner at the expo.  As the afternoon turned to night, we finally had to pack it up so we could get some rest before the race the next day, but that didn't stop people from watching our video maps to the very end.

Junior Chain Drive

Trail Genius is not just for adults, my 6 year old daughter filmed her race this weekend at the Chain Drive Festival and made her first Trail Genius map.

Green Bay Marathon Recap

It started with the idea, "Lets try filming a running race."  Then we said, "Lets not do any race, lets film a marathon!"  It sounded like a good idea at the time, but 18 miles into my first marathon, pushing a stroller with a bunch of camera strapped to it, temps in the 90s and the race officially called off because they were out of ambulances, I started to wonder if we were a little crazy.  The whole race is documented with Trail Genius maps avaiable on the event page.
